Method: Listen to the unknown callers voicemail without actually calling them

Voicemail can be a treasure trove of information about the unknown caller. Usually, a person will have a custom voicemail greeting that usually contains their name, callback number, and a good time to reach them. If you are looking for the name of the person who called you and can’t try a method like the Use a Friend Method, then using a service that will call the unknown caller’s voicemail discreetly is right for you.

Let us introduce SpyDialer, which is a free* service that lets you enter up to three phone numbers a day that will give you their voicemail. (*After three uses a day, the service tries to charge you a small fee each time, unless you share you entire phone’s address book with the website).

So how do you use SpyDialer?

SpyDialer has recently changed the way their site operates, so the information below may not be fully up to date. To read the newest version, click here instead.

1: Go to SpyDialer’s website at www.spydialer.com and enter the phone number of the person who you want to discreetly call.

Enter you phone number here, make sure “Hear Voicemail” is selected

2: Click on “Dial” and the service will begin the call. You will wait for about a minute and then the screen will switch over to a results page where you can hear a recording of the voicemail. See the picture below. If the person happens to pickup the phone while the service is calling, the recording will record whatever they say instead. This is especially useful if you need to be able to recognize the person’s voice if they don’t have a voicemail. The number that was used to call our test phone call came from Salt Lake City area code, we found this out by looking at the Area Code Method.

3: We tried two times using SpyDialer. The first time it called and we answered, and were greeted with just silence on the other end of the line. When we called back the number, it said “You have been SpyDialed” This is hidden in the SpyDialer’s terms of service here:

Persons receiving a spy dial call may see a missed call from one of our spy dialer numbers. The missed number displayed for free users plays a recording that the receiving party has been spy dialed. The missed call number for subscribers is super-stealthy and can’t be connected to.”

The second time we called, we let the call go to voicemail. In the first recording we hear our voices on the other end of the line when we answered the phone. The second recording recorded what our voicemail message said. Each recording was very clear and we were able to perform both calls without having to pay, just like the service said. If you do decide to pay for more calls, make sure you read this article first: When should you pay to do a reverse phone number lookup?

There are other services out there that will provide the same service as SpyDialer, if you happen to find a service like it, please leave a website in the comments below and we will look into it to ensure that it works correctly and is completely free for at least a few searches.

Spydialer used to be an amazing site and helped me prove my ex was cheating on me when I was taking him to court for a divorce. However I recently tried using it to figure out some unknown numbers that my child has been calling at all hours of the night and it would not offer me the option of hearing a voicemail. When it searched for the 3 separate numbers all it would tell me is information unavailable. what happened?! it used to be an amazing site and now its just crap.

Devon, Spydialer doesn’t always know a person’s number. They could be a new number or unlisted. My number won’t show because I took it off the site. Also, people use bandwidth numbers now like Google Voice. Keep in mind the name isn’t always up to date either. It is also the owner of the account whose name shows up.

I wished I knew what happen to Spy Dial– it worked like a charm for quite some time and recently I tried to use it and it doesn’t work at all any more. Needs to be fixed
